Grooming Schedule Updated

The grooming schedule for the 2015-2016 season is available over on the Mountain Trails Grooming Association site.

If you are interested in riding along on the groomer during one of their runs, email MTGA at mountaintrailsgrooming@gmail.com. It can be a long day and the groomer isn't a speedy ride, but it is fun way to experience a day in the life of a grooming machine operator. Don't forget to bring your lunch and camera. You never know what you might see as you are crawling along.

Avalanche Awareness

This is something that all snowmobile riders should be aware of.

If you're a skier, rider, snowshoer, snowmobiler or anyone that likes to get out in the mountains during the winter, please join us for a free (that's right, free) avalanche awareness presentation from the Northwest Avalanche Center and North Cascades Mountain Guides.

December 3rd at 6pm
Aero Methow Training Room in Twisp

The presentation will be useful for those without any formal avalanche education and a great way to get your brain back into avalanche mode for those with avalanche education. For those of you who are avalanche geeks, I'll stay after the NWAC avalanche awareness presentation to answer questions and share information from the Northwest Snow and Avalanche Workshop (Nov. 8 in Seattle...)

If you have any questions, please email josh "at" ncmountainguides.com

Aero Methow does not  have a lot of parking so please carpool if possible.

We Came, We Ate, We Awarded

This past Saturday, the Methow Valley Snowmobile Association held their annual awards dinner. The evening kicked off with a social hour at the Methow Valley Senior Center in Twisp. There was lots of laughter as members reminisced about the 2014-2015 sledding season. Although snow was little to non-existent in much of Washington state, there was enough in the Methow to keep it fun for most of the winter months.

Dinner was delayed when there was a mishap with our prime rib. Shortly before the club went to pick up dinner fixings, the rotisserie malfunctioned and many pounds of meat fell into the grease at the bottom of the machine. Kudos to Jackson at Hank's Market for scrambling to provide grilled New York strip steaks for forty people. Along with the steaks, members chowed down on either baked potatoes or a potato casserole, Caesar salad, and cake or George's world-renown cheesecake.

After dinner, it was time to hand out the awards. The Awards Committee, composed of Rich Stahl, Chuck Ultican and Julie Johnson, count ballots and make sure the awards are ready to go.

The most improved rider award went to Sam Lindsey. Snowmobiler of the Year went to Ted Lindsey.

The Lifetime Award was given to Paul and Pat Tillman. Normally this award goes to a single person but the Awards Committee decided that both Paul and Pat were very deserving because of all that they do for the club.

The Snowmobile Lamp went to Bob Adams for being the most entertaining rider of the year. At the start of the awards portion of the evening, both Bob and Ted received Sea-Doo stickers for their sleds. Seems they both wanted to use their sleds in the water and not on the snow. Thanks to Xtreme Power Sports for providing the stickers and to the guys for being good sports about it.

Lastly, Udell Sanders was called up where a special thank you gift was presented to him and his wife, Georgia. The Sanders are long time members of the MVSA and will be relocating to the "wetside" this coming summer. We will certainly miss them.

Thank you to our officers who served this past year: Craig Stahl - President, Dolly Stahl - Vice President, Chelsea Miller - Secretary, and Pat Tillman - Treasurer. Also a round of thanks to our board members for their service: Rich Stahl, George Brown, Chuck Ultican and Udell Sanders.

While snowmobiling season is done for the year, there are still events taking place in the coming weeks for club members. Winthrop's 49'ers Day where we will have a float in the parade and serve up brats and hot dogs afterwards, plus the Memorial Day Rodeo that is a major fundraising event for the club.
